Choosing a Font for My Film and its Marketing Campaign

In the next few posts I will be looking at different fonts as I need to choose a font for the title cards that will appear in my trailers and for the copy on my poster.

Fonts in action films are typically bold, simple and clear to make an impact and convey to the audience the intensity and excitement of the film. Sans serif fonts are the most common used in action film titles as they appear modern and clean to emphasise the title to the audience and to reinforce that there will be thrilling action scenes throughout.

I am going to use the following websites to help me choose my font, Dafont and Fontmeme. Each website has pros and cons, which I will outline below.

Dafont

Pros:
  • All the fonts are free to use and try out
  • There are lots of fonts to choose from
  • The fonts are broken down into categories
  • The website allows you to try your own title in the fonts
Cons:
  • The categories aren’t broken down by film genres
  • Time-consuming to find fonts that are suitable
Fontmeme
