Comparing TV Spots in More Detail - Introduction

In the next few posts, I’m going to have a more detailed look at the conventions of TV Spots from two films of different genres.

TV Spots are short promotional trailers from films which are typically 30 seconds long. They are designed to capture the audience's attention during prime time television, though they are now more commonly seen on social media feeds. Therefore, they are filled with lots of eye candy and exciting moments to bombard the audience with the most exciting moments from the film, just ahead of its release in cinemas. The editing is usually very quick and the release dates are normally very specific such as ‘In Cinemas Now’ or ‘Coming This Friday.’ Therefore, TV spots are the last chance to get more people to see the film, by creating a sense of urgency and excitement for the film's release.

The two TV Spots I will be looking at are from the following films:

 'Oppenheimer' (Thriller)

'Ready Player One' (Sci-fi)
