Comparing TV Spots - 'Ready Player One'
The second TV Spot I am going to be looking at is for 'Ready Player One'.
The TV Spot for 'Ready Player One' contains the following typical conventions:
The TV Spot for 'Ready Player One' has many conventions for a typical TV spot, as it is only 30 seconds long, therefore lots of shots from the film are edited quickly together so the audience only sees the 'best bits' of the film (eye candy). Throughout the TV Spot a voiceover from the protagonist is used to deliver exposition to the audience and to grab their attention. This is accompanied by the tagline which is spread across two title card which says ‘Win the game, Change the world’. This creates excitement for the audience as they don't know the plot of the film but having witnessed the short TV Spot they would have been engaged with it. Another way this TV Spot follows typical conventions is by putting the name of the well known director (Steven Spielberg) in the middle of the trailer to not only make more people want to see the film as they might have watched one of Steven Spielberg’s previous films, but also to follow the typical formula for how TV Spots are presented to the audience.
At the end of the TV Spot we see:
- Film title ('Ready Player One') which the voiceover man says.
- Cast on billing block at the end (spread across two title cards)
- Production company logos on the billing block (Warner Brothers, Village Roadshow Pictures and Amblin Entertainment)
- Soundtrack and film format on billing block which the voiceover man says (Cinema, 3D and IMAX)
- Release date on billing block which the voiceover man says (March 30th)
