Comparing TV Spots - 'Oppenheimer'

The first TV spot I am going to be looking at is for 'Oppenheimer'.

The TV Spot for 'Oppenheimer' has many conventions for a typical TV Spot. It is only 30 seconds long, therefore it edits lots of shots from the film together very quickly to make the film seem exciting and to try to convince audiences to watch the film immediately it is released. A voiceover is also used over the shots from the film to deliver exposition and to make sure audiences can get a grasp of what sort of genre the film may be and whether they will like it or not. The TV Spot contains tense music, positive reviews such as ‘The best film of 2023’ and states that it has been put up for ‘13 Academy Award nominations’, which are all attempts to engage spectators and create the sense that this is a must-watch film.

At the end of the TV Spot we see:
  • Film title ('Oppenheimer') over a black screen, which is said by the voiceover man
  • Production company logos on billing block (Universal and Syncopy)
  • Director's name on billing block (Christopher Nolan)
  • Format of film at the end (experience it in the cinema and IMAX)
  • Release date (Out Now)
