Comparing Theatrical Trailers - 'Avengers: Endgame'

The fist theatrical trailer I am going to look at is for the film 'Avengers: Endgame'.

The theatrical trailer for 'Avengers: Endgame' contains the following typical conventions:

The theatrical trailer for 'Avengers: Endgame' has many conventions for a typical theatrical trailer. A voiceover is used at the beginning to deliver exposition, and so the audience are aware of what will happen in the film. Clips from previous films are also used to give the audience a reminder of what happened to some of the characters, this is usually done with films which have sequels. Throughout the trailer, the audience witness a lot of eye candy (fighting/explosions) which are edited quickly together to give it a more thrilling feel. Additionally, the music in the trailer is very dramatic at certain times and gets progressively louder to make it feel more tense and exciting for the audience. The main thing which makes theatrical trailers different from other trailers is that the plot is revealed to the audience, therefore people get an idea of what will happen throughout the film and can get a better understanding if they will enjoy the film or not. Finally, throughout the trailer there are lots of shots of famous actors and established characters to make audiences who are familiar with the franchise excited and desperate to watch the film when it is released.

At the end of the theatrical trailer we see:

• Title of the film ('Avengers: Endgame') with the theme song playing
• Release date over a black screen (April 26th)
• Production logo (Marvel)
• Format of film (3D and IMAX)
