Comparing Teaser Trailers - 'Mufasa: The Lion King'

The first teaser trailer I am going to analyse is from 'Mufasa: The Lion King'.

The teaser trailer for 'Mufasa: The Lion King' has many conventions for a typical teaser trailer. Although the trailer hints at the story of Mufasa, which is a prequel to the original 'Lion King', the actual plot of the film isn’t revealed to the audience, so it leaves fans excited, creating hype for when the film is eventually released. The teaser includes lots of eye candy to thrill the audience and make them eager to watch the film. Therefore, the editing throughout is quite fast paced which is accompanied by quick music, to create a rush for the audience. However, at the beginning of the trailer, the editing is quite slow, with lots of fade ins/out from blacks to create a nostalgic feeling. 

Right at the beginning we see the production company logo/ident (Disney) over images of the film and the original 'Lion King' music begins playing to engage the audience immediately, and make them think of the original film and the enjoyment they got from it. Soon after, a voiceover is used to deliver exposition, so the audience are aware of where the films is set and how it links to the original 'Lion King'.

In the middle of the teaser the name of the Academy Award-winning director (Barry Jenkins) is seen over a black screen.

At the end of the teaser we see:

• The film title ('Mufasa: The Lion King') over a black screen
• The billing block of well-known cast and important crew
• The release date (December 20th)
• The production company logo (Disney)
• The soundtrack website
