Conventions of Film Posters - Conclusion

After analysing different posters from different genres I have identified the conventions that are typical of all posters, which are listed below:

• The name of the film (usually the biggest copy on the poster)

• Dominant image (often of a character)

• Release date

• Taglines

• Names of stars

• Production company logos (usually below the billing block)

• Website/social media hashtag

• Certificate

• Billing block (at the bottom of the poster)

• Additional images 

• Name of director (often near film's title)

• Reviews/star ratings

• Reference to other films

• Reference to awards

• Merchandise (such as soundtrack)

• Reference to source material 

• Format

• Indication of genre (through iconography, fonts and colours)
